The judges visited Oadby & Wigston on Wednesday 11th July to look at the borough's entry into the regional competition. The packed 3 hour tour took them from Peace Memorial Park in Wigston, onto the newly installed Pinfold feature at Newgate End, then via Blaby Road Park in South Wigston to Aylestone Lane Allotments, and back into Wigston Town Centre. They then moved onto Oadby to see Brocks Hill Country Park, Portland Walk, the University Students allotment before concluding at the Botanic Garden. The Racecourse was also seen as our entry into the Business Category.
Working with council staff the route was swept and litter picked (a huge thanks to all the volunteers who made a supreme effort to clear a large amount of litter), shrub beds were weeded, hedges cut back and everywhere given a little extra TLC.
The judges commented on a most interesting tour and the enthusiasm that shone through from all the volunteers.
Fingers crossed for the awards ceremony in September.
